Library Policies and Procedures
The mission of the Apollo Middle School library is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information by providing materials to reinforce, enrich and extend classroom learning experience.
Schedule
Apollo’s library operates on a flexible schedule. The library is open from 8:45 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. every day. Students may be sent to the library (with a valid hall pass) to check out books from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Teachers are encouraged to bring their classes to the library to conduct research. Please discuss what you would like for your students to do with Mrs. Criswell and she will put your classes on the calendar. Classes will not be scheduled on the calendar to come to the library without prior approval from Mrs. Criswell.
Check Out Policies—Students
All students may check out two (2) books at a time. The circulation period is two weeks.
We do not charge fines for overdue books; however, students must return an overdue book before additional books may be checked out.
Students who lose or damage books beyond repair will be charged the replacement cost of the book. Students who habitually lose books and do not pay for them will not be allowed to check out books and will be limited to using books only in the library.
Check Out Policies—Faculty
üFaculty may check out a maximum of 30 books before the system requires library staff to enter an override.
üAll library books will be checked out for 42 days (6 weeks).
üNo library materials will accrue fines for faculty.
üFaculty will have unlimited renewals.
üVideos and DVDs must now be checked out on the computer! Please see a library staff member to check out after you have made your selection.
üVideos and DVDs must be checked out by the teacher. Do not send a student to the library to check out a movie for you. Also, do not ask a substitute teacher to come to the library to get a movie to show your class when you are absent. If your plans for the substitute include showing a movie, you must check it out before you leave.
Essential Literature
When checking out an Essential Literature tub, a member of the library staff will verify the number of books in the tub. The staff member and the teacher will initial the sheet in the tub.
Teachers will be provided with a sheet to record which child gets which book by using the numbers on the book spine. If a student loses or damages a book, the teacher should note this on the sheet. The library will put a charge on the student’s library account.
Teachers are to check out and return tubs to the library. Do not pass tubs around to other teachers. |
